Motofish Racing http://motofishracing.com cycling team Tue, 20 Dec 2011 03:12:33 +0000 en hourly 1 WA State CX Champs http://motofishracing.com/?p=2428 http://motofishracing.com/?p=2428#comments Tue, 20 Dec 2011 03:04:24 +0000 admin http://motofishracing.com/?p=2428 Last CX race of the 2011 season was the Washington State CX Championships.  It was a beautiful day to get out and race CX and MOFI had a few riders out.  Even though the season is only a few months long by the end the numbers have shrunk.  It takes dedication to get out there every weekend in the wet and cold and add on to that work responsibilities, family -time, and just staying healthy and by the end you are probably ready for base miles.  Regardless it was a beautiful day to race and as per usual we had tons of family support and fun.

Big congrats on a great season to both Cal Spranger who raced his way out of the threes in 3 races and to Sarah Bender who had a great battle going all season long to finish 2nd in Master Women.

]]> http://motofishracing.com/?feed=rss2&p=2428 0 Starcrossed and Rapha-Focus GP http://motofishracing.com/?p=2325 http://motofishracing.com/?p=2325#comments Thu, 22 Sep 2011 17:10:23 +0000 admin http://motofishracing.com/?p=2325 It was a big weekend for Cyclocross in Seattle.  We had back to back races in the same venue – Starcrossed on Saturday and the Rapha Focus GP on Sunday at Lake Sammamish State Park.  The spectating was fantastic for both races with a deep men’s and women’s field in the Elite’s including national and world champions.  The course was flat and fast.

After a typically long and scattered road season it was nice to get back to focussed CX racing and see the crew.  MOFI certainly has a great group racing CX this year.  At Starcrossed we had Mark Bender in at 11th and Erik Hundley finishing at 16th in the CAT 4 Master Men’s 35+.  Mark’s wife Sarah finished in 6th in Master Women.  Cal Spranger moved up from the 8th row in CAT 3 Master Men’s 35+ to finish in 6th.  Pretty great results.  The following day at the Rapha Focus GP it was even better.  Mark finished in 3rd place in CAT 4 Master Men’s 35+ and new MOFI racer Dean Vergillo finished in 2nd place.  The MOFI domination of CAT 4 continues.  Sarah Bender had even a better result coming in in 4th place as did Cal getting 3rd place in CAT 3 Master men 35+.   At Rapha Focus the kiddos got to race too.  Gideon and Titus Bender finished in 5th and 10th place in Junior Boys 10-12 and Jack Spranger finished in 16th.

CX season is officially under way – there are races every weekend through December.  Looking forward to seeing everyone out there and congrats to everyone on a great weekend!

]]> http://motofishracing.com/?feed=rss2&p=2325 0 A night at Seward Park http://motofishracing.com/?p=2304 http://motofishracing.com/?p=2304#comments Sat, 11 Jun 2011 04:35:34 +0000 admin http://motofishracing.com/?p=2304 The last shot of our week long Raleigh shoot just happened to be at Seward Park and was wrapped by about 5:45 which gave MOFI rider Chris time to quickly change into his kit and jump into the 6pm race.  The goal was to get a little race pace, not crash and help MOFI uber crit master Cal Spranger at the end.  Cal is fresh off a win at Ballard this past weekend and is the current points leader in the 6pm Seward series so maybe he really didn’t need that much help.  Regardless, since we had our cameras Greg was nice enough to shoot the race as well.

Seward is just about one of the nicest bike related things we have going in Seattle – a beautiful venue, generally good turn outs and lots’a fun racing.  If you’re curious about bike racing as well it is a great place to begin.

The race went pretty much as planned until there were about 9 laps to go.  After dragging a pedal around the turn at the top Chris’ rear tire blew and he was out.  Coming up the rise before the line on the last lap was Cal where he usually is giving it full gas.  No win tonight though, he was pipped at the line and had to settle for second.  All in all a good night which was nicely wrapped up with dinner at MFR team sponsor Pizzeria Pulcinella.

_MG_1793 _MG_1834 _MG_1840 _MG_1864 _MG_1955 _MG_1959 _MG_1967 _MG_1969 _MG_1986 _MG_2013 _MG_2016 _MG_2018 _MG_2024 ]]> http://motofishracing.com/?feed=rss2&p=2304 0 Wenatchee Omnium 2011 http://motofishracing.com/?p=2274 http://motofishracing.com/?p=2274#comments Tue, 17 May 2011 03:12:41 +0000 admin http://motofishracing.com/?p=2274 Even in the wet and cold Wenatchee is still a fun place to race and the road race up Joe Miller is what bike racing is about.  This past weekend was the Wenatchee Omnium and MOFI had three riders participating; Greg, Cal and Chris.  It was wet and cold in eastern WA for the race.  If you wanted to replicate the road race on Sunday for example set your trainer up in the shower at a 10% slope, turn the water on cold and ride for two hours.  Or if you wanted to see how windy and wet the TT was you could tie a parachute behind you and ride uphill as hard as you can while someone sprayed you with a garden hose.

Did all the aforementioned matter?  No.  With a small squad we did well.  Greg notched his first career wins with a 1st place in the CAT 5 TT and another first in the CAT 5 road race and was the overall Omnium winner in CAT 5 (He also clearly won the photo contest as well.).  Cal had a strong weekend with a 2nd place in the CAT 5 criterium and a 3rd in the CAT 5 road race which was good enough for third overall in the CAT 5 Omnium.  Chris placed 2nd in the CAT 4 TT and was 8th in the CAT 4 road race which was good enough for 4th overall in the CAT 4 Omnium.  All that winter riding must’ve paid off.

A big thanks to our families for coming out as well.  Going over the top of that climb and hearing cheering, getting a bottle and a smile made life a lot easier.  The weather wasn’t easy to ride in and it certainly wasn’t easy to stand in so many, many thanks.

So, to the racing – the CAT 5 men looked strong and all rode a smart race.  Cal had the best place of the bunch with his typical strong finish.  Elise and Cindy looked good in thier race as well with Elise finishing with the bunch in her first ever crit.  After the racing we packed it all in and wandered down to the Coastal Kitchen for some well deserved brunch.

We also wanted to use the skinsuit as a way to push our current design forward which will find its way into new kit designs. But this CX race season it has been nothing but a compliment for many MoFi racers. You see, 14 weeks ago we began training (as a team) with Ryan Miller and his crew at Arrivee Sports. He brutalized us twice a week with sumo squats, stair-monster sessions, kettle bell swing, box jumps, all with a heavy dose of competition and competitive circuits. After 14 weeks of training the results are easy to quantify. Sandbagger you say… here are just a few stats comparing 2009 cx to 2010 cx. In the first three SCX races, Chris has been cleaning up with a 4th, 3rd and 1st place finish. His results in the same races last year, 32nd, 16th and 22nd. Greg has posted a 5th, 4th and 6th place finish in 2010 – last year, 45th, 73rd, and 40th respectively. Sean has probably had his best season in the MFG races, with a 6th place finish this week. Clive has consistently finished in the top ten, he currently sits 4th overall in the SCX series and 7th overall in the MFG series. Both Travis and Brian have had many solid starts powering their way through the field to finish strong above mid pack, consistently better than last year. Elise, a newbie to cross this season, has turned in progressively better finishes with a 22nd, 14th then 11th place finish.

So a big thank you to Arrivee and Ryan Miller for all your Motofish team training. We’re already looking forward to the beginning of our road season training. Hopefully with all our hard work we can once again be called Sandbaggers. Oh, and if you are reading this and your not a MoFi racer…you’ve never heard of Arrivee or Ryan Miller….
